Well, the end of the month is just around the corner (tomorrow!!) and thoughts of February lead one to visions of lacy hearts, chocolates, and chubby cupids poised coyly with bow and arrow in hand.  I not only think of my sweetheart, but also of my close girlfriends and family members.  A sweet handmade gift is a nice surprise for a roommate, daughter, mom, sister, best friend, or prayer partner.  Add a rosette to a headband, pin one to a jacket lapel, or tie one to a gift bag or wrapped gift for a finishing touch.  For a more extensive project, make several rosettes and sew them together into a garland for a window or a swag to adorn the back of a dining chair.

The beginning...
Sewing the outer petal to the base...
The finished product...easy and fun!
A garland in shades of gold.

Wool Felt Rosette Pattern - $5.00

Such a simple delight...cozy boot toppers that work up amazingly fast!  Start with the sleeves from an "old" sweater - how old is up to you - thrift store find or one of those sweaters that just seems to live at the bottom of your drawer. Add a few basic embroidery stitches, a bit of applique and a little lace and you have a one-of-a kind gift or an accessory for your own wardrobe that will draw raves. This would be a fun group project - gather a few girlfriends and mix and match sweaters and fabric scraps.  Try a crochet edging at the top, or add some rick rack or ribbon trim.  Use your imagination and have fun!

Dress them up or slide them over your jeans and slip on your Uggs.  An extra layer of warmth is really nice on cold days.

Simple felt circle appliques make cute flowers.  Add a French knot for the center and some tiny leaves on either side.

Delicate lace and a bit of embroidery adds a feminine touch to your recycled sweater!

A pattern for these boot toppers is coming soon!  I am experimenting with a few variations and hope to have the pattern ready by my post next week.

It seems that each year after I put away the Christmas decorations and give the house a good cleaning I am in the mood to move things around and do a little mini-redecorating.  I also feel like "streamlining" - getting rid of clutter and keeping out only those things that are functional as well as pretty.  These coaster are just that:  functional and pretty.  Make a set for yourself, or whip up a couple of sets to have on hand to give as gifts in the coming weeks.

Choose two coordinating colors of wool felt for your coaster set and embellish them ...
...with felt scraps and embroidery.

French Knots make a dainty border.
